Vermeil

By Frederik Drost

Vermeil is a type of metal jewelry that is made by plating a base metal such as sterling silver with a layer of gold. The gold must be at least 10 karat, and the layer must be at least 2.5 microns thick. The word vermeil comes from the French word for “gilded” and is often used to describe vintage or antique jewelry. Vermeil jewelry has a unique look and is more affordable than solid gold jewelry. It has a classic, timeless look that can easily be dressed up or dressed down.
