Translucent

By Frederik Drost

Translucent is a watch term which describes a watch face that is slightly transparent. This allows for the internal mechanics to show through, giving the watch a unique, semi-transparent look. The translucent effect is usually achieved by using a special type of crystal, such as sapphire, which is then treated with a chemical coating or tint to give it a translucent appearance. It can also be achieved with a semi-transparent dial, allowing the hands to be seen through the glass. Translucent watches are often seen as a luxurious, sophisticated choice, and they make an eye-catching statement on the wrist.
