Oscillating Weight

By Frederik Drost

An oscillating weight is a component of a mechanical watch movement. It is an internal part of the mechanism which rotates back and forth as the watch is wound or runs. The oscillating weight is connected to the mainspring and its motion drives the gears that power the watch. It is usually made of metal and is typically visible from the back of a mechanical watch. It is an essential part of a mechanical watch and helps to keep the time accurate.
