Magnetism is a type of force created by the movement of electric charge. It is the force that allows magnets to attract and repel objects made of certain materials like iron. When two magnets are placed close together, they interact with each other’s magnetic fields, causing either attraction or repulsion. Magnetism plays a major role in the production of electricity, as well as in the operation of watches and other timepieces. The movement of the hands of a watch is powered by a tiny magnet in the watch’s motor which interacts with a coil of wire in the watch’s base, thus producing a tiny electrical current that powers the watch’s mechanism.
