Finishing (Finissage)

By Frederik Drost

Finissage, also known as Finishing, is the final stage of watchmaking, where the watch is made complete and ready for wear. This involves an intricate process of polishing, assembly, and decoration that takes place over several days. Finissage typically involves hand-polishing the components to a mirror-like finish, assembling the movement and casing, and adding decorative elements like enameling, engravings, and gems. The attention to detail and craftsmanship that goes into each watch is what makes Finissage such an important step in creating a quality timepiece.
