Electroluminescence

By Frederik Drost

Electroluminescence is a type of technology used in watches that produces light by passing an electric current through a phosphor material. This can be used to create a backlight for a watch face, or to illuminate the hands or markers on the face. This type of lighting is very energy efficient, creating a soft glow that is long lasting and requires little power. It is also very low in heat output, making it ideal for watches that are worn close to the skin.
