Ebauche

By Frederik Drost

An Ebauche is a watch movement that is unfinished, requiring assembly and adjustment before it can be used in a watch. It consists of the main plate and bridges, the gears, pinions, and other parts, but it does not include the dial, hands, or jewels. Ebauche movements are usually made from brass or nickel, and are usually produced in large batches. They are an economical option for watchmakers, as they require less labor and cost less than a fully assembled movement.
