Compensation

By Frederik Drost

Compensation is a watchmaking term used to refer to the adjustment of a watch’s movement in order to make it accurately keep time under varying temperatures and other environmental conditions. It is accomplished by adding or removing timing components to the movement to maintain its accuracy. This process is necessary to ensure that the watch is able to accurately keep time in all conditions, and is especially important for watches that are used in areas of extreme temperature.
