Chablon

By Frederik Drost

Chablon is a French term used in the watchmaking industry to refer to a paper template used to create a guilloche pattern on watch dials. The pattern is made by engraving into the watch dial with a burin or graver tool, and the Chablon is used to ensure the pattern is precise and consistent. It usually consists of an intricate and intricate design cut out of paper, which is then placed over the watch dial before engraving.
