A Brace (or Bridle) is a watch mechanism that consists of two metal arms that connect the balance wheel to the main plate. It is designed to help maintain the balance wheel’s oscillating motion, allowing it to keep accurate time. The Brace also helps reduce the effects of shocks and vibration on the watch movement, preventing it from becoming damaged or out of sync. The ends of the Brace are usually connected to two jewels to reduce friction and wear on the metal arms.
