I have always been attracted to men’s silk scarves and the different looks they help create, when paired with a suit or blazer. It can be worn as an ascot which gives a slightly archaic, but very elegant, retro and dandy style. It adds color and a touch of charm and distinction to a suit with a simple shirt.
But it’s a fine line between being stylish and doing too much, so I have a few rules that I never exceed.
- If you wear the scarf with a tie, avoid wearing other accessories such as the tie bar, a pocket square or a pin.
- I rarely wear it with a full suit, because I find it’s a casual item that does not fit with the strict attitude of the matching blazer and pants.
Here is a little visual guide to show you how you wear a silk scarf for men. I hope it inspires you to wear one yourself!
