Tiger’s eye

By Frederik Drost

Tiger’s eye is a type of quartz crystal that has a distinctive chatoyancy, or “cat’s-eye” effect, caused by the reflection of light off of the many thin fibers of crocidolite that run through it. This fibrous quartz has a golden brown color and a silky, almost metallic luster, giving it a look that resembles the eye of a tiger. It is often used in jewelry, particularly in men’s watches, to create a bold and striking look.
