Temper

By Frederik Drost

Temper is a term used to describe how a watch operates when exposed to changes in temperature. When a watch is exposed to extreme temperatures, it can cause the movement and lubricants to expand or contract, leading to a loss of accuracy in timekeeping. Temperature regulating techniques are employed to keep the watch performing accurately. These techniques include the use of a balance spring, temperature compensation, and the use of special lubricants. By controlling the temperature, a watch can remain accurate for a longer period of time.
