Striking mechanism

By Frederik Drost

A striking mechanism is a type of clockwork device that is used to produce a ringing sound at predetermined intervals. It consists of a series of levers, cams, and gears that are synchronized with a clock, allowing the sound to be generated on the hour or at other specified moments. The sound can be used for alarms, chimes, or to indicate the passing of time. The striking mechanism is often found in grandfather clocks, wall clocks, and mantel clocks.
