Water Resistance

By Frederik Drost

Water resistance is a watch term that refers to the ability of a watch to withstand exposure to water. Watches with water resistance are marked with a depth rating, indicating the level of protection they provide. Water-resistant watches can withstand exposure to water up to a certain depth (i.e. 30 meters, 50 meters, etc.), but they are not completely waterproof. Higher depth ratings offer more protection, so it is important to select the correct type of watch for the intended use. Water-resistant watches are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities, as long as the user is aware of the limits of their water resistance.
