Stippling (Spotting)

By Frederik Drost

Stippling (Spotting) is a watchmaking technique used to engrave small dots onto a watch’s surface to give it a unique appearance. The dots, or stipples, range in size and shape and can be arranged in various patterns to create a textured look. The process is usually done by hand and requires an experienced watchmaker to make sure the stippling looks even and symmetrical. Stippling is often used to create decorative patterns on the watch face and case, or to highlight certain features. It can also be used to engrave initials or messages on the watch.
