Prong or claw setting

By Frederik Drost

A prong or claw setting is one of the most common watch settings. It involves several metal prongs that wrap around the stone to secure it in place. Prongs are usually formed into claws, which hold the gemstone in the desired position. Prong or claw settings allow the light to freely pass through the gemstone, adding sparkle and brilliance to the watch face. Prong settings can be used to hold a single gemstone or multiple stones, depending on the design of the watch.
